Why I left my ♡ in Maui

I apologize to everyone about my extended hiatus, and this post is a long time coming. But I absolutely had to share my experience traveling to Maui last fall because it was truly life changing.

And I am just going to dive right in. First and foremost, you must go to Haleakala National Park to see the sunrise or sunset. But for sunrise, you have to make reservations because that many people want to go.  It’s 1.5 hours to go up the mountain so make sure you plan enough time.  And bring warm clothing, it’s 70-80 degrees at the bottom & 40 degrees & windy at the top! But you’ll be higher than the clouds at 10,000 feet and it’s incredible.

Maui Wine has the freshest tasing Pineapple wine I have ever tried hands down.  The tasting fee is between $10-15 depending on which selection of 5 wines you choose.  But they pour them generously.  Maui Splash was my favorite but Maui Blanc was a little less sweet, as far as whites go. My favorite red was Mele.  You can also purchase the wines by the glass & they have the entire selection of wines available in store & they can even ship them to most states!!

Now, as far as food goes, the best restaurant on the island is Mama’s Fish House. The entrees are $50+ each but you can share one, share an app & stick to one drink to make it reasonable. The fish is so fresh they will actually tell you who caught it for you that day.

Wailea is gorgeous and Kihei has some amazing bars & restaurants. Sansei sushi is amazing. Monkeypod is a hotspot for apps & mixed drinks, I do recommend a reservation though, and don’t go too late.  After about 8pm they run out of all of the popular dishes because they make everything fresh each day & eventually run out of ingredients. The pumpkin ravioli, potstickers & brussel sprouts are fabulous!

Little Beach in Kihei is a nude beach, you don’t have to take your clothes off if you don’t feel like sharing 🤣 but the only access is up a steep cliffside, and it closes at dusk so they can get everyone back down safely, make sure to plan accordingly.

You MUST get shaved ice somewhere on the island & I recommend Peace Love Shaved Ice in Kihei. And you also need to try some kind of flavor of WOW WOW lemonade (located in Kihei, and other various spots) If you need a good detox, I recommend adding charcoal to yours as shown above (you can’t taste it I promise).

Now in Paia, Paia Fish Market is the best, hands down.  You can get fresh Mahi or any kind of fish you want cooked to order with fresh sides.

Mana Foods is a must, it is the local version of Whole Foods & everything is fresh.  They have unique local fruit such as Rambutan, Lychee, & Lilikoi, which you have to try just to say you did whether you like it or not (I personally enjoyed them all!)

And they have a bunch of boutiques & shops in the downtown Paia area that are perfect for a day of shopping & there is a beach just down the street. And you absolutely HAVE to take a pic by the rainbow surfboards as you go into town!!

I would recommend going to Hana, but this will be an all day excursion.  However, there are beaches, wineries, hiking excursions, and lush scenery that will make the trip worth it. Twin Falls is a beautiful wooded spot in Haiku on the way to Hana, but is only 25 min east of Paia if you don’t want to make the 2 hour trip to Hana.  And if you like sea turtles visit Hookipa, there were 39 turtles in the bottom right pic!

Things to keep in mind, when I went I had guides with me (shoutout to Ashleigh & Meggi who are bomb AF ♥ them both) that had been staying there for months-years, which made it much easier to know which spots to hit first & foremost. You will be jet lagged for at least the first 2 days when you get there. The flight from Cali alone is 5 hours & with the time change, be prepared to not feel like staying out until 2am initially. I was there for 5 days and I truly feel 10-14 days are necessary to be able to see everything.  The island is literally jam packed with sites that are all absolutely worth seeing.

You will likely only be able to do a couple things each day because everything on the island is very spread out. Wailea to Maui Wine in Kula alone is about an hour drive because the region where Oprah’s house is located is not an accessible by public road, so instead of driving straight through in 15-20 minutes, you have to drive an hour around the island, so time management is key.

Now I promise the time will melt away & you won’t mind all of the driving a bit because the views are absolutely breathtaking in every single spot on the island.  It truly looks like Ireland with the greenery that surrounds you, and you can see mountains & ocean from nearly every vantage point.

Maui is literally my favorite place in the world, but full disclosure I am 100% a beach girl.  The beach town vibe that exists throughout the entire island is incredibly chill.  You can do whatever you want & no one cares. No shirt, no shoes, no problem! And everyone you meet is happy, I mean why wouldn’t they be with perfect weather & surrounding beauty year round!

And with the lush green landscape, colorful bright flowers in abundance, and having the ocean at your fingertips, it’s hard not to fall in love. You can clear your mind, reach a state of peace within yourself where you are free to let your flaws, your fears & your doubts go.  Here you can to be who you want & everyone will accept you.  You will truly understand the importance of taking in every minute, and cherishing the experience mind, body, & soul.

Now as you are visualizing your Maui trip, you should know it is really not as expensive as one might think.  My round trip flight was $780, and if you get an Airbnb or stay with another couple or group you can find something reasonable. I was lucky enough to stay with my bestie Meggi in Paia while she was on a travel job. But I promise it will be the trip of a lifetime if you go, although it should not be on anyone’s bucket list.  You WILL want to go back and as soon as possible. I know I want to make a point to go every year or at least every other year & I would drop everything to live there in a heartbeat.

I hope you enjoyed my post, please reach out with any follow-up questions you may have!

xoxo ♡♡

‘Tis the season for oversized knits

Hello lovelies! I hope you have all been having an amazing weekend! Today I wanted to share with you a trend that has been popping up everywhere lately now that the colder temps have arrived.

That trend being oversized sweaters.  Now, don’t feel that your options are limited in any way as far as what type of bottom goes best with the look.

You can wear them with skinny jeans, distressed denim, leggings, skirts, or over dresses.  Truly, the options are endless.  The key however, if you chose to go with a pant, select one that is at least slightly fitted.

If you wear oversized knits with wide leg or baggy boyfriend jeans the look will overwhelm you.  And if you go with distressed slightly baggy denim, I recommend wearing some type of heel to accentuate your femininity & make the look more modern.

OTK boots are perfect to complete the look when you wear them with skirts, as shown in the look I styled above.

Now, I chose a creamy white sweater because of my love for neutrals with pops of color, but they come in just about any hue, so feel free to pick your favorite.  I recommend sticking to 2 hues for your look, or variations of a similar color palatte so that the look isn’t too busy, especially with the larger sized knit.

Just FYI, the sweater I linked is incredibly soft & comfortable & I highly recommend it.  But be sure to try this trend, I assure you that it will suit just about anyone! And I can say that since I’m only 5’3″!

Sending you all some S&S love! xoxo ♥♥

For the love of Camo

Hello my beautiful friends…I hope you have all been well! My topic for discussion today is one of my favorite pieces for the season: camo print jackets.

Now, in the past, I had never been a huge fan, and I’ll be honest and I never really even thought of it as fashionable.  I believed it was more meant for service men, hunters & fisherman, more of a masculine print worn by someone who actually needed it for a purpose.

But more recently, the color palattes, textures, and media that have become available in varying styles of clothing with this classic print, have finally succeeded in winning me over!  And by textures & media I mean sequins for example, and seriously what’s more girly than that?!

Now the reason jackets are my favorite piece, is that the print can become overwhelming in large doses.  An example of this being a pair of pants, sweatshirt or sweater.  Then the style & print become less modern & less feminine, and in my opinion, reverts it back to its more functional purpose.

On the other hand, fitted jackets, or jackets that are of a shorter length that extend only to the waist or hip, are much more flattering & more current.

The green jacket shown above is in a lighter hue, which I found less stark than traditional camo tones, and more fresh & feminine overall.  And I completely love the sequin jacket! It is seriously so fun & the best part is that it is fully lined unlike some sequined clothing.  And as a result, it is not at all scratchy & completely comfortable to wear.

I absolutely love wearing both jackets & I sincerely hope you will give them & this print a try.  Just remember to have fun with it and make the look your own! xoxo ♥♥

All black everything ➕➕

Hello babes!  Hope you are all doing fabulously on this fine Sunday.  I wanted to share with you a chic all black look & one of my online boutiques for affordable pieces, the Odette & Odile Boutique.

I recently found these pants during a 7 For all Mankind warehouse sale, and I just love the zipper detail which makes them unique from other black skinny jeans.  So my tip is, if you can’t afford their regular prices, their online warehouse often has ongoing sales so be sure to check it regularly!

And tops with wrap detail & belts are definitely on trend right now, mostly because they add detail & they are figure flattering to your shape.  Oversized pieces are still in style as well, but it is always good to mix up your looks.

Now, if you haven’t checked out the Odette & Odile Boutique yet you simply must.  They have a variety of clutches at varying price points but most are $50 & under and are perfect for special occasions.  They also have accessories including sunglasses for $20.

With the holidays coming up before you know it, black pieces are a must for your wardrobe & will come in handy for those unexpected events that come up.

Wishing you a fabulous end to your weekend loves! xoxo ♥♥

A little Peplum lovin’

Happy Friday babes! Today on the S&S I am going to discuss my love for lace peplum!

The reason I wanted to highlight peplum is that it is such a flattering cut.  This because it cinches at the waist & flares out making your waist look smaller…which is a concept all of us ladies should embrace!

Plus, lace is fabulously on trend right now.  And black is just the perfect neutral for fall & winter, and it has been and always will be a classic color.  And this top will go with just about any color pant or skirt.

I would recommend sticking to skinny or boyfriend styles however, as flare or bootcut can distract from the cut of the top.

You can also easily wear a bomber or leather jacket over peplum too if it is already starting to cool off where you are.

Now, if you haven’t heard of Edie Parker & her fabulous clutches which she designed based on old school glam & sweetly named after her daughter, you absolutely must check them out!!

There are so many amazing styles which you can personalize & I promise you they are so hot right now.  I am sure you have seen at least one celeb clutching one that you didn’t even realize! They are such a cool investment & the handmade acrylic construction is to die for!!

But alas, I digress, and hope you will give this look a try my friends.  I promise a good peplum top will not let you down! Wishing you a lovely rest of you day! ♥♥ xoxo

The Chambray Shirtdress: a Fall Necessity

Greetings my S&S friends!  I hope you’re having a relaxing & rejuvenating weekend. That’s what they are supposed to be for right?? Although usually they end up being the only time during the week you can get anything done! We definitely need 3 day weekends more often.

In any case, I wanted to discuss one of my favorite transitional fall pieces, the chambray shirtdress.

The reason it is so versatile, is that you can wear it will sneakers, sandals, ankle boots, or virtually any style of shoe, depending on the weather, and it will look completely effortless.

Now, the key to choosing the right one, is that it must have either a tapered or cinched fit at your natural waist (not hips), or a belt to be the most form fitting & give your figure the most flattering shape.

Shirtdresses can get a bit boxy otherwise, which is never the way you want to go.  You have a gorgeous feminine figure & beautiful curves so you want to show them off!

I completed the look with a rose gold (my absolute fave!) bangle from Daniel Wellington.  And if you have heard of their watches but haven’t checked out their new accessory line, you must!

Wishing you an absolutely fabulous week ahead my sweets! And sending you some love! xoxo ♥♥

The perfect LBR

Good afternoon my sweet friends! I hope you are all having a fabulous week thus far! What I wanted to discuss with you today is one of my favorite wardrobe pieces of the moment, this gorgeous black floral romper.

Now, if you are too busy with work, school, or family life, you may not have time to keep up with the seasonal trends.  Recently, floral prints have been a huge trend, whether they be on dresses, skirts, kimonos, sweaters, or rompers.

And, contrary to popular belief, they are not just for the spring & summer seasons.  What I love about this romper, as we are transitioning into fall, is that the black solid background of the floral pattern makes it completely season appropriate.

Then, if it is starting to cool off in your area, (we are currently still in the 80’s in NC!) you can finish the look with a pair of white converse & a jean jacket for a more casual vibe.  Or you can wear your favorite pair of brown or black boots, of virtually any height, topped off with a leather jacket to easily dress this LBR up for evening wear.  So simple!

Please take the time to check out my absolute favorite romper of the moment.  It is the perfect piece to add a little ease & versatility to your wardrobe. Wishing you a sweet ending to your week! xoxo ♥♥🌸

Classic & Clean: Silk + Distressed Denim

Hello loves! I know this post is much overdue, but life has been a little crazy lately.  Plus, I don’t know about you but I have been trying to soak up the last little bit of summer at the beach while I still can!

Now, this clean & classic look can be easily transitioned into fall if it is no longer warm enough for shorts where you are.  And although I am in love with the lace detail on these shorts from Gray Monroe, they have plenty of other fall transitional pieces you can incorporate into your wardrobe.

Including some cute pairs of distressed jeans which would go perfectly with my absolute favorite current go to silk top from Nordstrom’s.

Now ladies, if you do not own a top like this, I am telling you I promise that you need one.  It is perfect for brunch, shopping, or any other daytime activities that come your way.

The key is finding the right neck line (try departing from the typical button down), and the right hue.  Light colored hues such as light pink, purple, ivory, and white, are especially versatile & crisp looking.

And if silk is too high maintenance or expensive for you, I have linked a couple of different ones made of different fabrics and varying price points.  As well as a couple of my favorite delicate necklaces to polish the look, but not distract from it.

Please do yourself a favor and invest in a flowy feminine top like this for fall, and be sure to check out the latest arrivals from Gray Monroe.  Their price points range from $20-$45 and can easily fit into anyone’s budget!

Wishing you a fabulous day my beautiful friends! xoxo ♥♥
